Harry Potter and Sex Education
I was just thinking - what sex education and reproductive health education do the students of Hogwarts get? In the books, no mention was made of an equivalent of PHSCE (a British programme wherein sex and relationships were explored).
Do the young witches get told about their periods before they happen, or is it explained on a one-to-one basis every time one of them goes to Madame Pomfrey crying because she is bleeding for no reason? And really, the young wizards should have this explained to them to, but the witches are a start.
Is sex explained at all? Even if just in the year when the majority turn 16.Are there magic contraceptives?
Are there different rules on when sex is allowed (in Britian the age of consent for ‘Muggles’ is 16 - is this different for magical people)?
Are relationships explained, or is it left to hearsay and rumour?
Are non-straight relationships mentioned at all?
Is gender explained, and “non-normative” genders mentioned and/or explained?
What do you think? Let me know - I’m curious. How would you explain all this to the students at Hogwarts? Use the Room of Requirement, perhaps?
I think even in a world of magic, these things - these very important, vital things - were left unexplained. What do you think?

The books were already hundreds upon hundreds of pages, I don’t know if she was willing to go into that much extra detail.

I don’t think JK Rowling set up the universe that far, in all honesty.

a lot of wizard kids are homeschooled b4 Hogwarts, maybe wizard parents handle it. it’s a 1000 yr old school, maybe a little behind the times

Well Dumbledore is gay and had a lover, but it ended in tragedy. The kids also date. But that’s all there is as far as I remember.
